Breastfeeding Seminar - 5 Sept 2009by Miscellaneous
Held at the comfortable and airy Bungalow@Damai near KLCC in Kuala Lumpur (9 Lorong Damai 9, off Jalan Damai, parallel to Jalan Ampang). Both mama and papa should attend. Gina Yong, our breastfeeding / lactation consultant was trained in the USA and she gives a great informational talk which is so useful to all new mothers in all sorts of things, not just breastfeeding. If you have already given birth to your baby and are having problems breastfeeding, Gina will definitely be able to help you out. Breastfeeding might be 100% natural, but we all need a guiding hand - just like with everything else, skills need to be learned. In the past we had experienced midwives and mothers / grandmothers who lived at home with us / wise women in the village, who would impart their knowledge. In the modern world, these womanly ties have mostly broken down, and so we need women like Gina to impart their knowledge.

The breastfeeding Talk given by the hospital is usually part of the Ante-natal program. It's a program of 8 different topics - preganancy, pain management, child care, breastfeeding etc. The classes are usually 2hours x 4 sessions. So, you can imagine that there isn't all that much information given to the soon-to-be parents. Also, the Hospital breastfeeding talks are usually given by the matron or sister or just a registered nurse, and the question is - did they breastfeed? More likely than not, theirs are just book-knowledge and not practical knowledge. On the other hand, Gina is an experienced mother of 4 who also struggled with breastfeeding her first baby - who better to guide new mamas than a mama who's been through it all?
