Paul Penders goes back as far as 1900 when Paul's grandparents all ran successful salons in the Netherlands, and sparked Paul's ambition to go beyond chemically based beauty products. Dutch herbal master and apothecary Herma Eeftlink and famous natural healer Dr. Ab Steyn encouraged Paul to incorporate a unique family devised herbal extract into his produtcs.

Paul travelled a long and winding route to arrive in beautiful Langkawi here in Malaysia. After setting up his factory in the Netherlands, he became embattled with the Dutch Government in 1984. They were determined to close Paul's factory because he refused to do animal testing.

Two of his aunts, who happened to be nuns, offered to test Paul's cosmetics and enlisted fellow convent residents to support the cause. Despite this long term successful experiment, Paul's products were never officially approved, largely due to pressure exerted by powerful government lobbyists working on behalf of th elarge cosmetic companies.

The Dutch FDA gave Paul an ultimatum - start animal testing or close the factory. Paul refused to go against his ethics and began to look overseas.

To his great joy, Paul found that the American FDA was open to the idea of non-animal tested cosmetics, so Paul Penders, the factory was moved to America.

Eventually, animal testing of cosmetics became a big social issue, influencing every major company. Ironically, the first country to comprehensively ban animal testing was the Netherlands!

After many happy years in the USA where his products grew from strength to strength, in 2003, Paul landed our very own Langkawi Rainforest where exotic herbs, plants and beautiful flowers are abundantly available. And that is why today, Paul Penders Research and Development and production facilities are based here in Malaysia!

Recently, Paul opened a new factory in Hangzhou, China to cater for the growing Chinese users of Paul Penders Natural Products. Cosmetic chemists from China are being trained at the Langkawi facilities.
